Justice Minister Gürlek: Real Identity Verification to Become Mandatory on Social Media

Mandatory Identity Verification Under the new regulation, users will be required to use their real identities on social media platforms, and fake accounts that fail to complete the verification process will be closed.
Regarding the technical implementation of the verification process, Minister Gürlek noted that the system will operate through passport information or confirmation messages sent to mobile phones.
This step aims to ensure that accounts on digital platforms achieve a transparent and auditable structure.
Criticism of the Current Constitution Minister Gürlek also shared evaluations regarding the efforts for a new constitution, emphasizing that the 1982 Constitution is an anti-democratic text prepared during a period of military intervention.
He stated that the current constitution carries the oppressive spirit of the coup era and remains insufficient in meeting contemporary social needs.
"Due to the interventions made from the date the Constitution first came into force until the last amendment, its systematic structure has been disrupted and it has turned into a 'patchwork quilt.' We need a constitution that does not lag behind society but prioritizes the human element and adds dynamism to society," Gürlek said.
Minister Gürlek added that they aim for a civil, modern, and inclusive constitution to raise Turkey's democratic standards.
