Iran Uses Crypto Assets to Circumvent U.S. Sanctions

Crypto Usage Begins Iran’s Central Bank and exporters have started using digital assets such as Bitcoin and Tether as alternative payment channels in foreign trade.
This move aims to bypass certain stages of the traditional banking chain and overcome restrictions imposed by U.S.
sanctions.
Response Washington closely monitors Iran’s use of digital assets to evade sanctions.
In July, four crypto addresses linked to the Iranian Central Bank were added to the U.S.
sanctions list.
The U.S.
has also placed some major crypto platforms under sanctions and warned foreign individuals and financial institutions that transact with those platforms of potential sanctions risk.
Economic Impact Iran’s export revenue of over $100 billion has not yet returned to the country or had its accounts closed.
The use of crypto assets seeks to bring these funds back into the economy through alternative methods, particularly targeting the re‑circulation of amounts tied to large state‑owned companies in the oil and energy sectors.
This strategy is viewed as a move to strengthen Iran’s economic resilience.
