Minister Şimşek Responds to Tax Increase Claims: "Not on Our Agenda"

Clear Response to Tax Increase Claims Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek made critical statements regarding the economic agenda during a recent program.
Addressing public curiosity about tax regulations, Şimşek stated in no uncertain terms that there is currently no work being conducted to increase corporate tax or VAT rates.
The Minister put an end to speculations by saying, "A tax increase is not on our agenda." Investor Interest and Credit Rating Evaluation Emphasizing the decline in Turkey's risk premium, Şimşek noted that the country's current credit rating does not fully reflect its economic realities.
Expressing that Turkey deserves a higher rating, the Minister recalled meeting with approximately 800 investors in London, New York, and Hong Kong in January.
Şimşek noted that interest from international capital circles toward Turkey has reached its most significant level since 2013.
Disinflation Process and Sectoral Support Stating that few countries globally possess a strong economic narrative, Şimşek said the disinflation process in Turkey is continuing with determination and that growth remains resilient.
The Minister expressed a focus on improving financing conditions, emphasizing that supporting exporters is a priority and that issues regarding access to finance will be resolved.
Touching upon the strategic importance of agriculture, Şimşek added that regulations for the Wholesale Market Law are ongoing and that they anticipate a continued decline in rent inflation alongside an increase in housing supply.
He concluded by stating that this situation would have positive reflections on Turkey's current account deficit, the disinflation process, and the general growth outlook.
