In January, second-hand car sales increased by 5.54 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 582,100 units.
This sales volume represents the best January data in the last three years and was recorded as the third-highest January performance in the last 10 years.
Total Vehicle Market and Sectoral Evaluations The total second-hand vehicle market, which includes cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles, grew by 1.79 percent year-on-year in January 2026, reaching 827,673 units.
Industry representatives state that activity in the new vehicle market provides fresh stock to the second-hand market through trade-ins.
With the stabilization of prices in real terms in the last quarter of 2025, it has been observed that the "wait-and-see" psychology among buyers has ended and deferred demand has been reactivated.
It is emphasized that the market is now moving on a more rational basis, away from speculative effects.
In January, the real price index decreased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous month and by 5.9 percent on an annual basis.
As of January, the average car price rose to 1,149,000 TL, with average prices based on segments as follows: B segment: 747,418 TL C segment: 1,008,000 TL D segment: 1,453,000 TL E segment: 2,404,000 TL Partial improvements in access to financing and consumers' price-benefit-oriented preferences are cited among the main factors keeping second-hand car demand alive at the beginning of 2026.
