New Regulation and National List The "Regulation on the Prevention of the Entry and Spread of Invasive Alien Species and Their Management," prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.
This regulation aims to control alien species that threaten biodiversity, the economy, and human health.
As part of these efforts, a National Invasive Alien Species (UİST) List will be created to include species to be monitored across Turkey.
This list will serve as the primary reference for tracking and controlling species that harm the ecosystem.
Scientific Evaluation and Risk Analysis The inclusion of a species in the UİST List will be subject to a rigorous evaluation process based on scientific and technical evidence.
Factors such as the potential for species to establish populations under current and future climate conditions, their taxonomic identity, and potential economic damage costs will be examined.
The prepared lists will be submitted for approval to the National Invasive Alien Species Commission following review by technical advisory groups.
Strict Prohibitions and Inspection Processes Under the regulation, the entry, transit, breeding, trade, and release into nature of species included in the list are strictly prohibited.
Exceptions may be granted with special permits to universities and public institutions for scientific and medical research.
In the event of any spread or escape, pre-prepared emergency action plans will be activated to ensure a rapid response.
Monitoring System and Implementation Timeline The General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks will analyze the entry routes of species within 18 months.
A comprehensive monitoring system will be established within 36 months following the publication of the list to record data.
This system will form the basis for the management measures necessary for the eradication and control of invasive species.
