Abundance in the Countryside Project: 150,000 Small Ruminants to be Distributed to Producers

Project Scope and Distribution Details The "Abundance in the Countryside Small Ruminant Support Project," announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, aims to increase Turkey's livestock potential.
A total of 150,000 small ruminants are planned to be delivered to producers during the three-year period covering 2026-2028.
The animals to be distributed will be selected from 6 to 18-month-old breeding breeds raised within the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM).
The distribution process will be carried out with strategic planning, taking into account Turkey's regional climate conditions and pasture structures.
To create a sustainable production cycle, each eligible producer will receive a total of 100 small ruminants, consisting of 95 females and 5 males.
Application Timeline and Financial Support Applications for the project are expected to begin as of April.
Following evaluations to be conducted under the coordination of the General Directorate of Livestock (HAYGEM) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, animal deliveries will take place starting from the second half of the year.
Application requirements and the provinces where the project will be implemented will be announced by the ministry.
Producers will be provided with not only animal support but also financial security.
The distributed animals will be insured under the Agricultural Insurance Pool (TARSİM) for the first year.
Additionally, a monthly maintenance and feeding support of 150 Turkish Liras per animal will be provided for 12 months following delivery.
In this context, a producer will be able to receive 15,000 Liras per month and a total of 180,000 Liras in cash support per year for 100 animals.
Social and Economic Goals The primary objectives of the project include supporting rural development and preventing migration from villages to cities.
By encouraging women and young entrepreneurs to engage in animal husbandry, the project aims to protect the social fabric.
Through the blending of traditional methods with scientific techniques, small ruminant farming is expected to play a critical role in meeting Turkey's red meat needs.
