Rise in Number of Cards Continues The Interbank Card Center (BKM) has released card payment data for January.
According to the data, the number of credit cards in Turkey increased by 10% compared to the same period last year, reaching 143.4 million.
The number of debit cards rose by 8% to 210.9 million, maintaining the growth momentum in the total card ecosystem.
Total Payment Volume Surpasses 2.3 Trillion Lira The total amount of payments made with cards in January recorded a significant annual increase of 45%, reaching 2.326 trillion lira.
Looking at the distribution of payments, credit cards took the lion's share with 2 trillion lira, while 322.8 billion lira was spent via debit cards and 7.5 billion lira via prepaid cards.
Digital Transformation in Internet and Contactless Payments Card payments made over the internet increased by 42% compared to the same month last year, rising to 687.4 billion lira.
During this period, the share of internet expenditures within total card payments was calculated at 30%.
The use of contactless payments also continued to spread; the number of contactless transactions increased by 9%, reaching 1.1246 billion.
The total amount of payments made using contactless methods rose by a strong 49% to reach 751.8 billion lira.
