Chinese Businessman Murdered in Istanbul: Buried Alive for Crypto Assets

From Missing Person Report to Gruesome Discovery What began as a missing person report on January 24 in Bakırköy, Istanbul, has evolved into a large-scale murder investigation conducted jointly by Turkish and Chinese law enforcement agencies.
Police investigators, analyzing GPS records from 38-year-old Chinese businessman Yong Wang’s rental vehicle, initiated an excavation in an empty field in the Baklalı neighborhood of Arnavutköy.
The search led to the discovery of Wang’s body, bound with duct tape and buried vertically in the ground.
Suspicions of Being Buried Alive A preliminary report from the Forensic Medicine Institute has revealed the brutal nature of the crime.
While signs of physical assault were found on Wang’s head, the primary cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation.
This finding strengthens the possibility that the victim was buried while still alive after being knocked unconscious.
Technical analysis at the scene also established that the rental car had been stationed in the area for 50 minutes for reconnaissance purposes prior to the murder.
The Crypto Trap and Betrayal According to the investigation file, the murder was a planned kidnapping aimed at seizing cryptocurrency.
Yong Wang was lured to a restaurant in Fatih under the pretext of dinner by a Chinese woman identified as Shuyang L.
Evidence suggests the woman messaged her accomplices throughout the meal.
Upon leaving the restaurant, a group of four individuals intercepted Wang and kidnapped him.
The victim's lawyer stated that a significant amount of cryptocurrency stored in Wang’s cold wallets was forcibly transferred to other accounts.
Suspects Apprehended in Beijing Following the murder, ten suspects, including the woman who lured Wang into the trap, fled to China via Istanbul Airport on the same day.
Following rapid identification by the Istanbul Police Department and the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice, all ten suspects were detained by Chinese authorities in Beijing.
International legal proceedings regarding the case are ongoing.
