Strong Growth in Card Payment Volume The total amount of payments made with credit, debit, and prepaid cards in Turkey increased by 45 percent in January compared to the same period last year, rising to 2.326 trillion lira.
Credit cards accounted for approximately 2 trillion lira of the total payments, while debit cards reached a volume of 322.8 billion lira and prepaid cards totaled 7.5 billion lira.
Number of Cards Approaches 465 Million According to January data, the total number of cards in Turkey increased by 6 percent annually to reach 464.9 million.
During this period, the number of credit cards rose by 10 percent to 143.4 million, and the number of debit cards increased by 8 percent to 210.9 million.
The number of prepaid cards recorded a 2 percent decrease, falling to 110.6 million.
Internet and Contactless Payments Becoming Widespread Card payments made over the internet increased by 42 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 687.4 billion lira.
The share of online payments within total card payments stood at 30 percent, while the number of transactions rose by 7 percent to 245.9 million.
Contactless Payment Habits Strengthening Contactless payment methods continue to gain popularity among consumers.
The number of contactless payments increased by 9 percent annually to 1.1246 billion, while the payment amount rose by 49 percent to 751.8 billion lira.
The fact that 4 out of every 5 in-store card payments were made using contactless methods once again proved the high level of adaptation to this technology.
