Lottery Excitement for the Housing Project of the Century A lottery ceremony was held to determine the beneficiaries of 3,276 housing units to be built in Çanakkale as part of the "Housing Project of the Century." The new owners of modern and safe homes to be constructed across various points in the city were selected through a drawing conducted in the presence of a notary.
Governor Toraman: "Housing Supply is a Critical Issue" Speaking at the ceremony, Çanakkale Governor Ömer Toraman emphasized that housing demand has become a critical social issue alongside Turkey's growing population and rapid urbanization.
Toraman stated that housing production is too important to be left solely to free market dynamics, highlighting the active role played by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ).
Recalling that social housing projects initially set out with a goal of 50,000 units, Toraman noted that the current project has expanded to cover 500,000 units nationwide.
Earthquake-Resistant and Planned Urbanization Fatih Ekmekçi, General Manager at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, stated that 3,276 families in Çanakkale would be making a new start.
Ekmekçi mentioned that the state guarantees access to safe and affordable housing for low-income citizens, adding that they act with a vision of building earthquake-resistant, infrastructure-complete cities with distinct identities.
29,800 Applications Received Fuat Kuşçu, Head of TOKİ's Istanbul Real Estate Department, announced that a total of 29,800 citizens applied for the project from the Çanakkale city center and the districts of Ayvacık, Biga, Çan, Ezine, Gelibolu, and Yenice.
Kuşçu wished the beneficiaries well and promised to build peaceful and safe homes.
Wide Attendance at the Ceremony The lottery drawing began following a prayer by Provincial Mufti Mustafa Bilgiç.
The event was attended by Deputy Governor Polat Kara, Provincial Director of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Abdullah Borca, AFAD Provincial Director Ahmet Ali Artun, university representatives, mayors, and many citizens.
This lottery marks a significant step toward meeting the social housing needs in Çanakkale.
