Keban HES Produced 294 Billion kWh of Electricity in 52 Years

52‑Year Performance The Keban Hydroelectric Power Plant (HES) has produced a total of 294 billion kWh of electricity since it began operations in 1970.
This output accounts for roughly 1.1 % of Turkey’s total electricity demand.
Technological Renewal In 2019, a comprehensive local and national rehabilitation program was launched, fully modernizing the plant’s technological infrastructure.
Upgraded generators, pump systems, and control centers have increased efficiency and optimized energy production.
Collaborations During the rehabilitation, teams from EÜAŞ and TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center Energy Institute played key roles.
These partnerships ensured that the new equipment was equipped with domestically produced, research‑supported solutions.
Energy Share Plant manager Bekir Kaya noted that Keban HES supplies 1.1 % of Turkey’s energy needs, underscoring its critical role in the national energy balance.
Future Goals By 2026, the plant aims to exceed its 2019 production levels, leveraging the upgraded infrastructure to achieve higher output capacity.
