Social Media Influencers to Face Tax on 'Free Products and Services'

New Tax Regulation for PR Gifts As part of a study conducted by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, PR gifts and complimentary services provided by brands to social media influencers will now be considered commercial income.
15% Tax Deduction and Declaration Requirement Under the new regulation, content creators will be obligated to determine the market value of the products or services provided to them, even if they do not receive a cash payment for the promotion.
This determined value must be declared and deposited into the influencers' "exemption-certified" bank accounts.
Banks will then perform a 15% withholding tax deduction on the amounts deposited into these accounts.
The regulation aims to bring products and services obtained free of charge under official record.
This step is being carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce's efforts to record the digital economy and the "Action Plan to Combat Illegal Betting in Digital Environments."
