Social Media and Second‑Hand Listings Follow GIB's Footsteps

The Revenue Administration expands its data‑collection scope to include sales, rentals, and listings on digital platforms, now also monitoring social media and second‑hand ads.

Tax Obligation Posting an advertisement does not create a tax debt; however, if a real sale or rental occurs, tax assessment may be applied.
Simply publishing an ad does not trigger tax or penalties.
Proof of Real Transaction For tax assessment, proof that the transaction actually took place is required.
Therefore, the information that must be reported to GIB includes details related to the transaction.
Who Must Report?
Individuals who occasionally sell personal items and those who regularly conduct commercial sales are treated differently, but GIB is obliged to collect relevant information in both cases.
Information to Report The data to be reported to GIB will include the internet address where the service is offered, the name, surname or corporate title of the real or legal persons receiving the service, the taxpayer status, and other transaction details.
This development increases transparency in the digital economy while clarifying tax obligations for sellers and renters.
