Publication of Turkey's External Debt Statistics to be Transferred to CBRT in 2026

Transfer of Statistics to CBRT The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) has announced a new arrangement to present the country's external liability data under a single framework with a transparent and holistic approach.
As part of this initiative, the "Turkey External Debt Statistics," previously published by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, will be published by the CBRT starting March 12, 2026.
Methodological Updates and International Alignment With the transfer of the publication to the CBRT, the bank aims to achieve full compliance with international methodologies in compiling external debt arising from security liabilities.
In the new period, the residency of the security holder will be taken as the basis, rather than the country where the security was issued.
This change will ensure statistical consistency between the International Investment Position, Short-Term External Debt Statistics, and Turkey's External Debt Statistics.
Ending Redundant Publications and New Calculation Methods Reporting processes will be simplified as data is consolidated under a single heading.
Consequently, the "Private Sector External Loan Debt Statistics" publication will be discontinued to prevent duplication, as the relevant data will be included under the Turkey External Debt Statistics.
Furthermore, a security-based method will be adopted for calculating interest expenses arising from security liabilities in the Balance of Payments Statistics.
These updates, resulting from improvements in data sources, will come into effect with the January 2026 Balance of Payments Statistics to be published on March 12, 2026.
