Liquidation of Reserves Bitcoin mining firm Bitdeer (BTDR) disclosed in its latest operational report that it has liquidated its entire Bitcoin (BTC) reserve as of February 20.
During this period, the company sold 943.1 BTC from its existing holdings, along with 189.8 BTC produced during the same timeframe.
The company’s assets, which stood at approximately 1,530 BTC at the end of January, were gradually reduced throughout mid-February until the balance reached zero.
Economic Pressures in the Mining Sector The decision to sell comes at a time when profitability in the mining sector has faced significant challenges.
A recent 14.7% increase in Bitcoin network difficulty and a drop in hashprice—the revenue earned per unit of processing power—to below $30 per PH/s daily have put pressure on mining economics.
Strategic Shift Toward Data Centers and AI Management described the move as a strategic liquidity management effort, emphasizing that the proceeds will be used for land acquisition opportunities and infrastructure projects.
On February 19, Bitdeer announced plans to raise $300 million through the issuance of convertible bonds maturing in 2032.
These funds are earmarked for the expansion of data centers, high-performance computing (HPC), and artificial intelligence infrastructure projects.
Divergence from Industry Peers Bitdeer’s decision to completely exit its Bitcoin positions marks a notable departure from the strategies of other major industry players.
While Bitdeer has shifted its focus toward operational growth, other firms continue to maintain large reserves.
MARA Holdings holds approximately 53,250 BTC, Riot Platforms maintains 18,000 BTC, and institutional investor MicroStrategy holds over 717,000 Bitcoin.
By liquidating its holdings, Bitdeer has signaled a move away from the traditional "HODL" strategy in favor of a model centered on infrastructure and technological development.
