Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan Reveals 4 Favorite Cryptocurrencies for 2026

Strategic Portfolio Recommendations from Bitwise CIO Bitwise Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Matt Hougan shared significant insights regarding the future of the cryptocurrency market during a recent broadcast.
Hougan identified four core assets that he believes should be included in investor portfolios through 2026: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Chainlink (LINK).
Bitcoin and Institutional Expectations Stating that Bitcoin maintains its undisputed leadership despite market volatility, Hougan emphasized that investors should create a diversified basket rather than focusing on a single asset.
He noted that the market currently prices the probability of the U.S.
government purchasing Bitcoin at zero, whereas he evaluates this possibility between 10% and 25%.
Hougan pointed out that if this scenario occurs, market dynamics could change fundamentally.
Chainlink and the Potential of Tokenization Hougan gave special attention to infrastructure projects, highlighting Chainlink's (LINK) market leadership in the oracle services sector.
As the use of stablecoins and asset tokenization increases, the CIO stated that the need for oracles will become a fundamental requirement.
He further noted that tokenization presents a much broader financial opportunity than the stablecoin market alone.
The Future of Smart Contract Platforms Predicting that Ethereum and Solana will maintain their weight in the ecosystem, Hougan stated that these two platforms will continue to be critical building blocks in decentralized finance (DeFi) and institutional adoption processes.
He added that it is important for investors to focus on these assets, which have extensive technological infrastructure and use cases, for long-term strategies.
