Germany Overtakes Japan to Become World's Third Largest Economy

Shift in Global Economic Rankings According to current data released by the German Economic Institute (IW), a significant shift has occurred in the global economic hierarchy.
The United States maintains its top position with a gross domestic product (GDP) of $30.7 trillion, while China remains in second place with $19.5 trillion.
Germany has reached a GDP of approximately $5.1 trillion, overtaking Japan, which had long held the third-place spot.
Japan's GDP last year stood at $4.431 trillion, moving the country to fourth place globally.
Structural Challenges and Competitive Pressure Michael Grömling, Head of Economic Research at IW, stated that both Japan and Germany face similar structural issues.
Increasing global protectionism, rising tariffs, intense competition from China, and aging demographics continue to put pressure on both economies.
Grömling emphasized that the leadership of the US and China in high technology and artificial intelligence has allowed these two giants to widen the gap between themselves and other economies.
Growth Projections and Strategic Markets Germany is expected to maintain its new position until 2026, thanks to its strong industrial base and R&D-focused structure.
Following two years of stagnation, the German economy is projected to grow by 1 percent this year, driven by public investment.
While experts warn that growth will remain cautious, they point out that emerging markets like India offer critical opportunities for "Made in Germany" products.
Developing trade relations in this direction is of strategic importance for Germany's global competitiveness.
