Spor Toto Seniors Turkish Judo Championship Begins in Kocaeli with 900 Athletes

900 Athletes Compete for Medals Kocaeli is hosting another significant national sports organization. The
Spor Toto Seniors Turkish Judo Championship opened its doors with a ceremony held at the İzmit Martyr Police Recep Topaloğlu Sports Hall.
The opening ceremony of the event, where nearly 900 athletes from 81 provinces will compete for the podium, began with a parade of athletes carrying Turkish flags.
The ceremony was attended by Kocaeli Governor İlhami Aktaş, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, Turkish Judo Federation President Sezer Huysuz, and Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Gökhan Yavaşer.
Following the protocol speeches, plaques were presented to those who contributed to the organization before the competitions began.
"Capital of Sports" Vision In his speech at the ceremony, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın emphasized the city's sports infrastructure and organizational capabilities.
Stating that the city is taking firm steps toward becoming a center for sports events, Büyükakın said, "Our city, which hosts many sports organizations, is moving confidently toward earning the title of 'Capital of Sports.' Hosting such an organization is a matter of great pride for us.
Our city is always ready for these types of events." National Team and Olympic Goals Turkish Judo Federation President Sezer Huysuz thanked the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality for its support.
Huysuz highlighted the importance of local governments' contributions to Turkish sports, noting that three of the eight athletes who participated in the Olympics last year were members of the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Kağıtspor club.
Kocaeli Governor İlhami Aktaş expressed his belief that young athletes will achieve significant success in the future wearing the national jersey.
Aktaş emphasized that the athletes who will represent Turkey in European and world arenas will emerge from such championships.
The championship will conclude with the final matches.
