Identity Verification Mandatory for Social Media According to details announced by Minister Gürlek, identity verification requirements will be implemented on social media platforms to prevent anonymous accounts and enhance user safety.
The regulation is planned to be fully operational by 2026.
Under this framework, users will be required to verify their identities using ID cards or passport information during account creation or to maintain existing accounts.
Minister Gürlek emphasized that this step aims to significantly prevent disinformation and cybercrimes carried out through fake and anonymous accounts.
Transition Period and Account Status A transition period is envisioned for existing users.
During this time, users will be asked to verify their accounts with real identity information according to a determined schedule.
Accounts that are not verified or are found to be fake at the end of the specified period will be permanently closed to access.
This application aims to make digital platforms more transparent and auditable.
Citizens Abroad and Child Protection The regulation will cover not only users within Turkey but also Turkish citizens living abroad.
For users abroad, system integration will be provided through verification messages sent to mobile phones.
Another critical aspect of the regulation focuses on the protection of children.
In response to intense demands from families, strict inspection mechanisms will be established to protect children from harmful content and malicious individuals in the digital world.
