6.5 Million Youth in Turkey Neither in Education Nor Employment: One in Every Four Households Affected

6.5 Million Youth Outside the System According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), a significant portion of the young population aged 15-34 remains outside the economic and social system.
Out of a total of 24,061,000 young people in this age group, 6,519,000 are neither enrolled in an educational institution nor employed.
Critical Levels in the 30-34 Age Group The situation in the 30-34 age group has reached particularly concerning levels.
Of the 6,194,000 people in this demographic, 31.5%—equivalent to 1,950,000 individuals—are currently outside the system.
This figure represents the highest level recorded since the last quarter of 2021.
One in Four Households Impacted When compared to the approximately 26.9 million households across Turkey, statistics suggest that nearly one in every four homes is inhabited by a young person who is neither in education nor employment (NEET).
The negative impacts of post-pandemic economic dynamics and structural problems in the labor market continue to hinder the participation of young people in social and economic life.
Experts warn that these structural issues in integrating youth into the labor market could pose significant risks to long-term economic growth and social cohesion.
