Turkey-Germany Economic Relations Discussed in Antalya Strategies to strengthen commercial, economic, and cultural ties between Turkey and Germany were evaluated during a workshop held in Antalya.
The meeting highlighted the economic scale and employment capacity reached by the Turkish diaspora in Germany.
Number of Entrepreneurs Reaches 100,000 Kemal Şahin, the Germany Representative of the World Turkish Business Council (DTİK) under the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK), drew attention to the economic power of the 3.5 million people of Turkish origin living in Germany.
Şahin stated that the annual turnover of Turkish entrepreneurs has exceeded 90 billion euros.
Furthermore, it was noted that these enterprises provide employment for approximately 500,000 people, while the trade volume between the two countries has reached 50 billion dollars.
Critical Role in the Gastronomy Sector Addressing the weight of Turkish operators particularly in the food and beverage sector, Şahin stated that 80% of restaurants in Germany are operated by Turks.
He emphasized the importance of Turkish entrepreneurs in the sector with the following words: "If we were to remove Turks from the gastronomy sector in Germany, Germans would go hungry; Turks operate 80% of the restaurants.
In fact, a large portion of restaurants with Italian or other cuisines on their signs also belong to Turkish entrepreneurs." Strategic Importance of the Diaspora Adem Yavuz, Deputy Secretary General of DEİK, emphasized that the Turkish diaspora is not just a numerical figure but also a network of knowledge and experience.
Stating that DTİK is represented in 90 countries worldwide, Yavuz noted that 51% of its members are concentrated in Europe.
Yavuz added that they aim to increase cooperation with local authorities by making diaspora entrepreneurs more visible and to transform this potential into a strategic power.
Historical Development of DTİK During the opening of the workshop, Kemal Şahin also touched upon the establishment process of DTİK, reminding participants that the council's first general assembly was held in Istanbul in 1996, highlighting the institution's historical development.
