Turkish Parliamentary Delegation in Washington: Aiming for a Positive Agenda with US Congress

Structural Communication at the Legislative Level Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Foreign Affairs Committee, and his accompanying parliamentary delegation have begun official contacts in Washington.
The visit aims to elevate the positive agenda between Turkey and the United States to the legislative level.
The delegation is meeting with members of the U.S.
Congress to evaluate critical issues regarding the future of bilateral relations.
Speaking in Washington, Oktay noted that while communication between the two governments and heads of state is following a positive course, progress at the Congressional level has been slower due to U.S.
domestic politics.
Oktay emphasized the goal of establishing a direct and structural communication channel between the parliaments of the two countries to bridge this gap.
Sanctions and Regional Security The primary agenda items for the meetings include Turkey's contributions to European security, transatlantic relations, and U.S.
sanctions against Turkey.
Oktay highlighted that lifting these sanctions would significantly contribute to regional peace and the overall Turkey-U.S.
relationship.
Defense industry cooperation and economic ties also feature prominently in the delegation's discussions.
Gaza Meeting and Community Engagement Oktay mentioned that Turkey has been invited to a meeting regarding Gaza scheduled for the 19th, adding that evaluations regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's participation are ongoing.
As part of their program, the delegation also met with representatives of the Turkish community and citizens at a gathering hosted by Turkey's Ambassador to Washington, Sedat Önal, to exchange views on bilateral concerns.
