$40 Billion Economic Collapse Do Kwon, the founder of Terraform Labs, which caused a massive shock in the cryptocurrency markets in 2022, has been convicted in a fraud case.
The process, which led to an economic loss of approximately $40 billion, is considered one of the largest fiascos in the history of cryptocurrency.
The Algorithmic Stablecoin Fiasco TerraUSD (UST), launched by Do Kwon, was designed as a stablecoin pegged to 1 U.S.
dollar under normal conditions.
However, the system collapsed when the algorithmic methods used to maintain this value failed.
While UST, which was supposed to be worth $1, rapidly lost value, the ecosystem's native currency, LUNA, lost its value entirely.
This situation caused massive losses for investors on a global scale and shook confidence in the cryptocurrency market.
Judicial Process and Extradition Decision Do Kwon, who was sought as a fugitive for a long time and handed over to the U.S.
after being caught, agreed to cooperate with prosecutors during the trial process.
The court increased the prison sentence, initially projected at 12 years, to 15 years.
According to the decision, Kwon will serve part of his sentence in the U.S.
before being extradited to his home country, South Korea, where he will continue his imprisonment.
With this ruling, one of the most talked-about fraud cases in the cryptocurrency world has officially concluded.
