EU TikTok Regulations Have Global Impact: Vietnamese Creators Concerned

The European Union's accusations of "addictive design" and algorithmic restrictions against TikTok may alter the platform's global content distribution system, sparking concerns among Vietnamese creators regarding potential losses in reach and revenue.

EU TikTok Regulations Have Global Impact: Vietnamese Creators Concerned

EU Levels Serious Accusations Against TikTok Following a comprehensive investigation, the European Union (EU) has concluded that TikTok violated digital regulations.
The European Commission stated that the platform possesses "addictive" features that could harm children and vulnerable users.
This step, taken under the Digital Services Act (DSA), requires the platform to make fundamental design changes or face a heavy fine of up to 6% of its global annual revenue.
The nearly two-year investigation revealed that TikTok did not fully fulfill its obligation to assess risks to the physical and mental health of young users.
Algorithm Changes and Security Measures Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier emphasized that features such as infinite scrolling, autoplay, instant notifications, and recommendation algorithms lead to compulsive usage behavior among users.
EU officials, arguing that TikTok's current user protection measures are insufficient, proposed the following changes: Disabling the infinite scroll feature Creating mandatory breaks for more efficient screen usage Reducing the level of personalization in the content recommendation system TikTok responded to the allegations by asserting that it has not committed any violations and prioritizes user safety.
Concerns Among Vietnamese Content Creators These legal developments in Europe have resonated strongly among digital content creators in Vietnam.
Many creators are concerned that stricter algorithms and reduced personalization will negatively impact content distribution on a global scale.
Creators who follow a growth strategy based on algorithmic discovery mechanisms fear a loss of reach and revenue.
On the other hand, some digital media experts argue that these regulations could yield positive results in the long run.
According to experts, a more transparent and secure algorithm structure could increase content quality and create a sustainable ecosystem by ensuring users spend healthier time on the platform.
