Experts Point to Cyclical Upswing Carsten Brzeski, Global Head of Macro Research at ING, emphasized that the data points to a cyclical upswing.
Stating that defense and infrastructure spending support economic vitality, Brzeski reminded that uncertainties such as new customs tariffs continue to pose risks.
Deutsche Bank Chief Economist Robin Winkler confirmed that the economy is gaining momentum, while LBBW Economist Jens-Oliver Niklasch warned that the transformation in the industrial sector could be negatively affected by US tariff policies.
Foreign Trade and Tariff Uncertainty Persists While the German economy recorded 0.3 percent growth in the last quarter of 2025, it made a moderate start to 2026.
However, the 15 percent temporary customs tariffs proposed by the US administration and suspended trade agreements remain a primary source of concern for export-oriented German companies.
The future of tax refunds and international trade agreements are among the topics that remain uncertain on the business world's agenda.
