Population Loss and Local Economy The 2025 Address-Based Population Registration System results announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have once again brought Artvin's population loss to the forefront.
Muhammet Yüzbaşıoğlu, President of the S.S.
33 Minibus Motor Carriers Cooperative, evaluated the negative effects of the declining population on the local economy and shared his proposals for solutions.
Stating that they provide transportation services to seven neighborhoods within the Artvin Municipality borders, Yüzbaşıoğlu emphasized that maintaining the vitality of the city center is vital for both tradesmen and the public.
He noted that moving public institutions such as hospitals and universities away from the center has put local shopkeepers in a difficult economic position, as they struggle to survive while fulfilling tax and insurance obligations.
Investment and Employment Proposals Yüzbaşıoğlu stated that concrete steps must be taken to stop migration from the city.
He suggested that moving the hospital to the infantry battalion area would be a more appropriate decision for ease of transportation.
Furthermore, he expressed that industrial investments such as water and cement factories could be established in the region.
He also highlighted that bringing a military training unit to the city would significantly contribute to both population growth and commercial life.
"Mining companies should support Artvin's roads, infrastructure, and general development, and make permanent investments in our city," Yüzbaşıoğlu added, calling on companies to support local development.
