New Regulation for Digital Accountability The new regulation aims to ensure that users participate in social media platforms with their real identities, thereby increasing accountability in digital spaces.
The Ministry of Justice states that this step will play a critical role in combating cybercrime and preventing digital bullying.
Identity Verification Process and Scope Under the new system, citizens residing in Turkey will be required to verify their accounts using their national identity information, while users living abroad will use their passport details.
The verification process will be based on a confirmation code sent to the user's phone and the matching of profile information with official identity data.
Sanctions by BTK A transition period is planned for both platforms and users to comply with the regulation.
Profiles that do not complete the identity verification process within the specified timeframe will be blocked by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK).
Minister Gürlek commented on the matter, stating: "Those acting as keyboard warriors will now do so with their open identities.
Fake accounts that do not transition to real accounts will be closed."
