KOSPI Index Approaches 6,000 Point Mark: Historic Momentum in South Korean Stock Market

Record Run in the Markets South Korea's main stock index, the KOSPI, demonstrated a strong performance during the February 23 trading session, surpassing the 5,900-point level.
Maintaining its upward momentum, the index is approaching the historic 6,000-point threshold approximately one month after its first close above 5,000 points.
Tariff Rulings and Market Impact Starting the day with a 1.63% increase at 5,903.11 points, the KOSPI gained momentum following the U.S.
Supreme Court's ruling against President Donald Trump's retaliatory tariffs.
Although the index rose as high as 5,931.86 points during the day, it closed at 5,846.09 points due to profit-taking toward the end of the session.
On the investor side, retail investors made net purchases of 1.08 trillion won, while foreign investors and institutional investors recorded net sales of 1.09 trillion won and 142 billion won, respectively.
Sectoral Developments and Stock Performance The automotive sector benefited the most from the removal of broad-based U.S.
tariffs.
Significant stock movements in the market were as follows: Hyundai Motor: Increased 2.75% to 523,000 won Kia: Increased 0.52% to 172,700 won Samsung Electronics: Gained 1.53% in value SK hynix: Gained 0.21% in value Conversely, declines were observed in some large-cap stocks such as LG Energy Solution, Samsung Biologics, and Hanwha Aerospace.
Analyst Expectations for 6,000 Points Market experts point out that the KOSPI's pace of growth from 5,000 to 6,000 points has been much faster than previous thousand-point increases.
Nvidia's upcoming earnings report is expected to support semiconductor stocks, which constitute approximately one-third of the index.
Analysts predict that the 6,000-point level could be tested in the short term, supported by strong personal income data.
