Selling Pressure and Short Selling Data in Borsa Istanbul Last week, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index closed with a 1.74% loss, while the BIST 50 index declined by 1.56%.
Short selling transactions were observed to be influential in these index declines.
According to weekly data, a total of 226,180,836,188 TL worth of short selling transactions were carried out in BIST 50 shares.
Approximately 172.5 billion TL of the total volume was concentrated on the 15 most shorted stocks.
Experts state that while short selling is a natural part of market operations, it can increase price volatility during periods of high concentration.
Shorted shares are borrowed by investors and sold with the expectation of a decline, which can lead to market volatility.
Stocks with the Highest Volume Last week, Turkish Airlines (THYAO) and Aselsan (ASELS) ranked at the top of short selling transactions.
The top five stocks with the highest volume and their transaction amounts were as follows: THYAO: 27.5 billion TL ASELS: 19.1 billion TL ISCTR: 14.8 billion TL SASA: 12.5 billion TL AKBNK: 12.4 billion TL The list was followed by other major companies such as Pegasus (10.7 billion TL), Koç Holding (10.6 billion TL), Yapı Kredi (9.8 billion TL), and Şişecam (8.9 billion TL).
The lowest and highest price levels seen by these stocks throughout the week remain significant as levels where open positions are expected to be closed.

Weekly Short Selling Volume in Borsa Istanbul Exceeds 226 Billion Lira
Last week, short selling transactions in BIST 50 index shares reached a total of 226.18 billion TL, with the majority of the volume concentrated in 15 specific stocks.
